BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring unveiled at IAA 2025 with 1350 km WLTP range

BYD brought a model to the Munich Motor Show (IAA 2025) that signals the Chinese manufacturer’s move into a new European segment: the Seal 6 DM-i Touring estate.

It is BYD’s first estate car for the European market, in a body style that remains very popular here too. It is not fully electric, but a plug-in hybrid. The combined range? A generous 1350 km on the WLTP cycle.

The set-up pairs a 1,5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors, and is claimed to deliver average consumption (WLTP) as low as 1,7 litres per 100 km.

BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring powertrain and efficiency

There are two versions, offering two power outputs and two Blade Battery capacities (BYD’s LFP chemistry):

• Boost - maximum power: 135 kW (184 cv); battery: 10 kWh; electric range: 50 km; combined consumption: 2,6 l/100 km;
• Comfort - maximum power: 156 kW (212 cv); battery: 19 kWh; electric range: 100 km; combined consumption: 1,7 l/100 km.

The version with the smaller battery can only charge on alternating current (AC) at 3,3 kW. The Seal 6 DM-i Touring with the larger battery doubles AC charging power to 6,6 kW and also supports direct current (DC) charging up to 26 kW.

Tech-focused cabin

Like BYD’s other European models, the Seal 6 DM-i Touring’s exterior adopts an ocean-inspired design language, with smooth, flowing lines. The lighting signature at both the front and rear is shaped like a double “L”, while the rear lamps are linked by an LED light bar.

Inside, the wavy, sculpted layout is led by a floating rectangular display measuring 12,8″ or 15,6″ (depending on version), backed up by steering-wheel shortcut buttons intended to make key functions easier to access.

Space and equipment

Despite its substantial exterior footprint - close to that of a Volkswagen Passat - the boot tops out at 500 litres, although it can be expanded to 1535 litres. Even so, the car is expected to come with a long standard equipment list, including synthetic-leather seats with electric adjustment and heating. The boot lid is electrically operated.

Driver-assistance features include parking sensors and cameras, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and driver fatigue management, among other safety systems.

When will it arrive?

Alongside the Touring estate, the BYD Seal 6 DM-i will also be offered as a four-door saloon.

Both were shown in Europe for the first time at the Munich Motor Show, and their arrival in Portugal is expected very soon. Prices are due to be announced later this week.
