Volvo EX60 edges closer to Europe with Gemini and new interior tech

The new Volvo EX60 is edging ever closer to European roads. Little by little, the Swedish brand has been unveiling details of a model that aims to make life difficult for its familiar rivals: the Audi Q6, BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

With the official reveal of the new Nordic SUV just days away, Volvo has shared a fresh set of interior details for the EX60, focusing on systems designed to make driving more intuitive, safer and more tailored to each driver. “The new EX60 is packed with human-centred technology, designed to enhance the driver’s experience behind the wheel,” said Anders Bell, Volvo Cars’ Chief Engineering and Technology Officer.

This newcomer will be the first model in Volvo’s line-up to feature Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence assistant. The promise is that it can handle more involved tasks - such as locating a misplaced hotel reservation in your email or checking whether an item will fit in the boot - without needing you to take your eyes off the road.

According to the brand, soon “Gemini will be able to use the EX60’s cameras to see what the driver sees and answer questions about the world around them,” Volvo added.

At the centre of the vehicle sits the HuginCore central system, developed in-house by Volvo. It brings together cutting-edge hardware and software, incorporating the know-how and experience of leading technology companies - “a true software-defined car”, the brand says.

Capable of more than 250 billion operations per second, the system draws on the real-world experiences of other Volvos worldwide - including accidents - to anticipate hazards.

Greater processing power

The Volvo EX60 will be fitted with Qualcomm chips via the Snapdragon Cockpit platform, as well as NVIDIA hardware using the NVIDIA DRIVE platform, enabling one of the most advanced processing set-ups across the brand’s range. As with other recent Volvo launches, the EX60 will also support over-the-air (OTA) updates, made possible by the Volvo Cars Superset technology platform.

What do we already know about the EX60?

Based on what the Swedish manufacturer has disclosed so far, the EX60 will be able to cover up to 810 km (preliminary figure) on the WLTP cycle on a single charge, making it the longest-range electric Volvo to date.

Thanks to its 800 V architecture, it will be able to regain around 340 km of range in just 10 minutes, provided it has access to a 400 kW charger. Final figures have not yet been confirmed, but Volvo has already said that all EX60 customers will benefit from a 10-year battery warranty.

When will it arrive?

The Volvo EX60 will be unveiled on 21 January 2026, during a live-streamed event from Stockholm, Sweden. On that date, the final details of this new SUV will be revealed - a model which, according to the brand, is aiming to take the segment lead.

EX60 pricing is still unknown, but it is expected to be announced during the first quarter of 2026. The market launch should take place in the second half of this year.
