Mercedes-Benz unveiled a “vegan” interior for the entry-level S-Class

Mercedes-Benz has revealed an updated S-Class in its base specification, now offered with an interior that avoids natural leather. This is the facelifted W223 generation, and for the first time in the model’s history it can be ordered with a fully “animal-free” cabin. The option is available across Europe, including Germany, where the standard version is the S 350 d 4Matic with the short wheelbase.

Materials and trim in the animal-free S-Class cabin

In place of traditional leather, the interior uses a mix of the synthetic Artico material and a fabric made from recycled polyester and linen. The seats feature light-coloured piping, while the door panels are finished in faux leather with diamond-pattern stitching. Buyers who still want a conventional look can alternatively choose an all-black leather interior at no extra cost.

Standard equipment and price in Germany

Even in its opening trim, the S-Class remains a premium car: in Germany, prices start at €121,356. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, digital displays (including a screen for the front passenger), and a revised steering wheel that returns to physical controls rather than touch-sensitive buttons.

Availability outside Europe

This version will not be sold in the United States, where only the long-wheelbase S-Class is offered and diesel engines are not available. The refreshed model falls into the 2026 new-car line-up and underlines the brand’s approach of widening the choice of materials without changing its pricing policy.
