BYD's Denza Z is the electric 'Porsche 911' and the weakest version has 1582 hp

BYD has unveiled the Denza Z today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is an all-electric supercar that is set to enter production shortly, with an arrival in Europe also on the cards. It will be sold under the Denza badge - positioned above BYD - and it comes with an ambition that remains unusual for a Chinese manufacturer: to build a distinct family of high-performance sports cars with its own identity.

Denza Z line-up: Coupé, Spider, Racing and Nürburgring Special Edition

The Denza Z will be offered as a Coupé, a Spider and a Racing model, plus a Special Edition developed specifically for the Nürburgring. Every version is 100% electric.

The formula itself is hardly revolutionary: one base car, several interpretations, and a handful of special derivatives. Think of it as a Chinese Porsche 911 concept - but battery-powered, and with close to 2000 hp. Even the least extreme variant is rated at 1582 hp.

The days when the Bugatti Veyron’s 1001 hp felt jaw-dropping seem further away with each new launch.

Nearly 2000 hp and three motors

Underneath, the Denza Z uses BYD’s e3 platform and a three-motor layout: one electric motor on the front axle and two on the rear axle. This set-up brings four-wheel drive and active torque vectoring. For the Coupé, Spider and Racing versions, Denza quotes 1582 hp and 1240 Nm.

In Coupé form, it completes 0–100 km/h in 2.25 seconds and is capable of 300 km/h. The Racing model, running semi-slick tyres, cuts the sprint to 1.96 seconds and raises top speed to 350 km/h. The Special Edition goes further still: it exceeds 1971 hp and claims under 1.7 seconds from 0–100 km/h.

Aerodynamics, chassis and brakes

Compared with the other versions, the Racing adds dedicated cooling channels for the motors and brakes, along with a carbon-fibre rear wing offering three adjustment settings. Denza states up to 1060 kg of downforce at 350 km/h. In Special Edition guise - featuring an active front diffuser and an adjustable rear wing - that figure rises beyond 2000 kg at 300 km/h.

The DiSus-M suspension combines double wishbones at the front, a multilink rear axle and magnetorheological dampers. The Coupé and Spider use air suspension, while the Racing relies on coil springs. Every version features drilled carbon-ceramic brakes, with six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear.

Charge in nine minutes

For its battery pack, the Denza Z uses BYD’s second-generation Blade cells. Total capacity will be 76 kWh. Claimed range sits between 380 km and 410 km, depending on the version.

Denza says the Z can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, with peak power of up to 1500 kW. In Europe, those figures will depend on the charging infrastructure available.

United Kingdom launch: orders, deliveries and pricing

In the United Kingdom, Denza Z order books open at the end of summer, timed with the launch of the brand’s first dealerships. First deliveries are planned for the end of 2026. Pricing starts at £142 900 (around €167 600 at the current exchange rate) for the Z Coupé, rises to £159 900 (around €187 500) for the Z Spider, and reaches £172 900 (around €202 800) for the Z Racing.

For other European markets, Denza has not yet shared pricing, a launch timetable, or confirmed which versions will be available in each country. In Portugal, the brand still has no official representation.
