Peugeot 2008: the compact SUV that keeps winning in Portugal

The Peugeot 2008 was Portugal’s best-selling car for three years running and it remains one of the Portuguese public’s favourite SUVs. It is hard to find a clearer sign that the French brand has got the recipe right.

So what is that recipe? Peugeot says it starts with dimensions that are compact enough to make city driving and parking straightforward, while still providing five seats, a 434-litre boot and the room a family needs for everyday life - and for setting off on a well-earned holiday.

Next comes a line-up that does not force everyone into the same choice. The Peugeot 2008 is available with a petrol engine, with self-charging hybrid technology that does not need plugging in, and also as a fully electric version offering up to 406 km of WLTP range.

As part of the current promotion, the petrol Peugeot 2008 is available from 129 euros per month*. This offer applies to the Peugeot 2008 Edition Turbo with 100 hp and a six-speed manual gearbox.

Compact in the city, practical for family life

The Peugeot 2008 sits right in the heart of the compact SUV segment. It is not so large that it becomes awkward to drive around town or squeeze into parking spaces, yet it also avoids the usual space compromises associated with smaller superminis.

Styling also plays a role in the decision. The Peugeot 2008 stands out thanks to its three-claw light signature, visible at the front and in the rear light clusters, as well as a higher, more upright nose that strengthens its SUV presence.

Boot space is rated at 434 litres and can be expanded to 1467 litres with the rear seats folded down. A two-position adjustable floor helps you make better use of the available height or create a flatter load area when you need to carry larger items.

There is room for the weekly shop, a pushchair, or luggage for a family break. This balance between compact exterior dimensions and day-to-day versatility is a major part of the Peugeot 2008’s success.

A distinct identity inside, too

Inside, you will find the Peugeot i-Cockpit - one of the brand’s most recognisable features. The instrument display sits above the compact steering wheel, positioned closer to the driver’s natural line of sight.

Every version comes with a 10-inch central screen. On higher trim levels, the instrument cluster is also digital and can be shown with a three-dimensional presentation.

Below the central display, piano-style keys provide quick access to key functions. The Peugeot i-Connect system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and, depending on the version, can include connected navigation, voice commands and over-the-air updates.

In the back, all versions include ISOFIX child-seat mounting points and USB connections. They are simple touches, but they matter in a family car - especially when children and teenagers are travelling in the rear seats.

Petrol, hybrid or electric

There is no single engine choice that suits every family. The right option depends on how many kilometres you drive, the type of journeys you make, and whether you can (or cannot) charge an electric car regularly.

The petrol version uses a 1.2-litre Turbo engine producing 100 hp, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. It is a latest-generation unit and already uses a timing chain.

As the entry point to the range, it may be the sensible option for those who cover relatively few kilometres each year, want to keep the initial outlay under control, or do not drive mainly in urban conditions.

Official combined consumption is 5,7 l/100 km, with CO₂ emissions between 128 and 129 g/km. Prices start from 24 510 euros. This is also the engine included in the promotion that makes it possible to have a Peugeot 2008 from 129 euros per month.

The hybrid line-up is offered with 110 hp or 145 hp. Both use an electrified six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The battery charges while driving, particularly during deceleration and braking. There is no need to install a wallbox, hunt for a charging point, or plug the car into a socket.

For those who often deal with urban traffic, prefer an automatic gearbox and want to cut fuel consumption without changing their routine, the hybrid could be the most balanced choice in the range.

E-2008 to make the most of home charging

The Peugeot E-2008 features an electric motor with 156 hp and a 54 kWh battery. Range can reach up to 406 km on the WLTP combined cycle.

This version makes the most sense when you can charge at home or at work. In that situation, most everyday journeys can be completed without relying on public chargers.

At a 100 kW rapid charger, the battery can go from 20% to 80% in approximately 27 minutes. Using a 7,4 kW wallbox, the same charging window takes around 4 hours and 40 minutes.

The Peugeot E-2008 is available from 31 855 euros. The current promotion includes a wallbox, access to the Charging Pass and the possibility of benefiting from the Peugeot Care Warranty for up to eight years or 160 000 km, provided the brand’s stated conditions are met.

What stays the same is the foundation: five seats, a generous boot, city-friendly dimensions, on-board connectivity and a line-up wide enough to suit different family needs. That may be what lies behind the Peugeot 2008’s success - it does not try to force every family into the same answer.
