FIAT confirms SUV and Fastback after the Grande Panda

Two Fiat cars, an orange Multiplay SUV and a red Multiplay GT, displayed in a modern showroom.

The FIAT Grande Panda debuted at the same time as the Italian manufacturer marked its 125th anniversary, and the announcements did not stop there: the brand has already confirmed the next two models in its pipeline.

FIAT’s next two models after the Grande Panda

To set the scene, it is worth going back to February, when FIAT unveiled five new concept cars designed to preview the models it intends to launch by 2027. The first to reach the stage is the Grande Panda, leaving four more still to come.

Next in line are an SUV and a Fastback, neither of which has an official name yet. Even so, multiple reports suggest the SUV could be called… Multipla. Yes, the same badge previously used on two six-seat MPVs-the most recent of which still attracts strong opinions about its styling.

In this new iteration, the MPV gives way to a family-focused SUV, intended to be more practical and better suited to straightforward everyday use.

Timeline: 2025 for the SUV, 2026 for the Fastback

The second model takes on a more energetic “SUV-coupé” outline and will target buyers looking for a crossover with a sportier “attitude”. It will also take over from the current FIAT Tipo.

According to FIAT, both vehicles are already “at an advanced stage of development”-as shown in the teaser video-and are expected to reach the market in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

What do we know so far?

Even so, as with their final names, it is still too early for full technical specifications. What is already clear is that both will be built on Stellantis’ new Smart Car Platform, first introduced with the Citroën ë-C3 and also underpinning the FIAT Grande Panda along with the latest C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera.

Platforms and powertrains

Thanks to that common architecture, both newcomers will be offered as 100% electric models, but also with hybrid systems-48 V mild-hybrid technology-or a “simple” combustion engine, reflecting the flexibility of a platform engineered for lower-cost cars.

If FIAT follows the approach seen on the new Citroën C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera, the most affordable electric version should use a 44 kWh battery and deliver a range of roughly 300 km.

Meanwhile, the hybrid option is expected to use the 1.2 Turbo with either 100 hp or 136 hp, paired with an electric motor integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

What’s still to come: Pick-up, Strada and the leisure vehicle

After the production versions of the SUV and Fastback concepts, FIAT will still have to reveal the road-going versions of the Pick-up and a leisure vehicle (unnamed) that sits closer to an MPV in shape, but is fitted with the accessories needed to make it a genuine adventure-ready model.

While the Pick-up is set to lead to a new Strada-with a European launch not ruled out-it remains unclear whether the final concept will translate into a production model.
