Skoda Superb iV plug-in hybrid: prices, battery and performance

Available as both an estate and a hatchback, and offered in four trim levels - Ambition, Style, Sportline and Laurin & Klement - the Skoda Superb iV, the Czech flagship’s plug-in hybrid variant, has now reached the domestic market.

On the outside, the Superb iV can be told apart from the purely combustion-engined versions through a handful of details: the “iV” badge on the tailgate, the charging socket hidden behind the radiator grille, and a bumper with a honeycomb-style structure plus model-specific air intakes.

Inside, the biggest practical change is the smaller boot, a consequence of packaging the batteries: 470 litres in the hatchback and 510 litres in the estate, instead of 625 l and 670 l in the non-hybrid versions. The Superb iV also adds dedicated infotainment menus related to the hybrid system.

Two engines: petrol and electric

Powering the Skoda Superb iV are two motors rather than one. A 1.4 TSI producing 156 hp is paired with an electric motor rated at 116 hp (85 kW). Together, they deliver a maximum combined output of 218 hp and 400 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a six-speed DSG gearbox.

With this set-up, the Superb iV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7s and reaches a top speed of 224 km/h, while quoting fuel consumption of 1.5 l/100 km, electric energy consumption of 14 to 14.5 kWh/100 km, and CO₂ emissions between 33 and 35 g/km.

And the battery?

The electric motor draws its energy from a 13 kWh lithium-ion battery (10.4 kWh usable), enabling up to 55 km of all-electric range (WLTP cycle).

As for charging, Skoda says a standard household socket requires a full night. Using a 3.6 kW Wallbox cuts the charging time to 3h30min.

Overall, the Skoda Superb iV comes with three driving modes: Sport, E and HYBRID. Sport prioritises performance; E runs the Superb iV solely on the battery (and is selected automatically whenever the car is started); and HYBRID automatically manages the interaction between both motors.

How much does it cost?

As you would expect, the Superb iV hatchback is priced lower than the estate. To show the full price list for the Czech model’s plug-in hybrid variant, here it is:
