How do you refresh an icon of the automotive industry? A car that, year after year, has topped global sales charts.
Is it enough to stick to the proven recipe-built on values such as reliability, comfort and low running costs-or does it need to go further?
New Toyota Corolla. Going further
Without losing sight of the qualities embedded in the Toyota Corolla’s DNA, the new Toyota Corolla is not content simply to echo what previous generations achieved-it is designed to go further.
New in-car technology, latest-generation driver-assistance systems, more eye-catching design and a more rewarding drive are just some of the areas where the new Corolla marks a clear break from the past.
Built on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, the new Corolla moves the game on in every respect compared with the previous generation. That progress comes in three distinct body styles: Hatchback, Sedan and Touring Sports.
We went to see these three versions with the help of João Pereira, Olympic triathlete, Toyota ambassador in Portugal and one of Portugal’s great hopes for the 2020 Olympic Games:
Toyota Corolla. The dynamic Hatchback
With a 60% increase in torsional rigidity, sharper steering and a new suspension layout, the Corolla is more engaging to drive than ever.
That feeling is amplified by the new sports seats, which provide extra support and comfort for passengers-whether you are tackling mountain roads or covering long motorway miles. In the most powerful version, with hybrid power, the new Corolla completes 0-100 km/h in just 7,9 seconds.
The Toyota Corolla Hatchback is available from 21 299 euros.
Toyota Corolla Touring Sports. The versatile estate
Tailored to European tastes, the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports delivers extra room for passengers in the front and rear, along with a boot of almost 600 litres (598L) that opens automatically via a hands-free system.
It is a model aimed squarely at those who want greater flexibility and comfort, whether for family life or outdoor pursuits. One thing is certain: whichever version you choose, the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports promises to leave no-one indifferent.
The Toyota Corolla Touring Sports is available from 22 499 euros.
Toyota Corolla Sedan. More prestige
With a distinctive exterior and interior design, the new 4-door saloon is aimed at those who value greater comfort and a more upmarket feel. The 1.8 hybrid engine is smoother than ever, thanks in part to major advances in the automatic gearbox.
In this version, comfort comes first, wherever you sit inside the Toyota Corolla Sedan. Fancy travelling in executive style? Even the rear seats are heated.
The Toyota Corolla Sedan is available from 28 299 euros.
