After being unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show at the start of last month, the Peugeot 408 2026 is now arriving in Portugal, with prices starting at 37,065 euros.
First launched in 2023, the 408 stands out for its refreshed front end, which echoes the Peugeot 308 that was also updated recently. The split headlamp design keeps an evolved light signature, with the LED “three claws” on each side now linked by smaller segments.
The main headlights (Full LED or LED Matrix, depending on the version) are slimmer and are integrated into the outer edges of the redesigned bumpers. For the first time, the 408 features an illuminated logo at the front and an illuminated “Peugeot” script at the rear.
More technology on board
Inside, the i-Cockpit remains the headline feature, centred on two 10-inch screens: one for the instrument display and another touch-controlled screen for the infotainment system.
Positioned beneath the central screen, the i-Toggles provide customisable shortcuts for functions such as navigation, multimedia, or even contacts, while the ambient lighting lets you choose from eight colours.
Up front, the seats carry AGR certification, with available electric adjustment, pneumatic massage and heating.
Exclusive plug-in hybrid
The engine line-up stays largely the same, but with one major update: the plug-in hybrid version. The Peugeot 408 Plug-in Hybrid now delivers 240 hp of combined power (15 hp more than the previous version).
Here is the full list of powertrains available for the Peugeot 408 2026:
- 408 Hybrid - 1.2 Turbo (petrol) with 136 hp; 21 kW (29 hp) electric motor; 145 hp maximum combined power; e-DCS6 gearbox;
- 408 Plug-in Hybrid - 1.6 Turbo (petrol) with 180 hp; 92 kW (125 hp) electric motor; 240 hp maximum combined power; 14.6 kWh battery; 85 km electric range (WLTP urban cycle); e-DCS7 gearbox;
- E-408 - 157 kW (213 hp), 343 Nm torque; 58.2 kWh battery; 456 km range (WLTP combined cycle).
The E-408 supports rapid DC charging of up to 120 kW, enabling a 20% to 80% top-up in around 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the 408 Plug-in Hybrid can be fully recharged in about 2 h 5 min using a 7.4 kW Wall Box (32 A) or the optional 7.4 kW single-phase on-board charger.
In Portugal, the Peugeot 408 range is split across two trim levels: Allure and GT. In entry-level form, the small “lion” includes keyless entry and start, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, and emergency braking assisted by camera and radar, among other features.
At the top of the line, the GT adds front parking sensors, Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, an electric tailgate, and further extras.
Electric Peugeot 408 models (E-408) also include a trip planner, battery pre-conditioning, Plug & Charge, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. This allows the car to act like a giant power bank, powering, for instance, small household appliances.
