The Jeep Compass now has the powertrain it was missing. The third generation of the American brand’s SUV arrived in Portugal at the end of last year with mild-hybrid and fully electric versions, and it now adds a plug-in hybrid option to the line-up.
Aimed at drivers who want to keep the benefits of electric driving without suffering range anxiety, Jeep has opened order books for the Compass e-Hybrid Plug-in. It pairs a 150 hp petrol engine with a 92 kW (125 hp) electric motor. Together, the system delivers 225 hp of maximum combined power and 350 Nm of torque.
Its 17.9 kWh battery enables an electric range of more than 80 km on the combined WLTP cycle, and it can reach 100 km in urban use. With assistance from the combustion engine, total range can extend to 983 km. In Portugal, the Compass e-Hybrid Plug-in can already be ordered from €48,000.
More space
Compared with its predecessor, the new Compass has grown noticeably. It now measures 4.552 m in length (+15 cm) and 1.9 m in width (+8.5 cm), while the wheelbase has increased by 15.9 cm to 2.795 m.
These changes translate into more room inside and improved carrying capacity. Boot space is now 541 litres, expanding to 1561 litres with the rear seats folded. The second row is split 40/20/40, although it does not create a completely flat load floor.
Inside, the highlights include a new 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16-inch central display. A head-up display is also available as an option, projecting information onto the windscreen.
Fitted as standard across all versions, the Select-Terrain system offers five driving modes - Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and Electric - controlled via a horizontal selector on the centre console.
Other powertrains
As with other models built on the STLA Medium platform, the Jeep Compass is offered with mild-hybrid and fully electric powertrains, as previously mentioned.
The range starts with the 48 V mild-hybrid version, which uses Stellantis’ familiar 1.2 Turbo engine producing 136 hp and 230 Nm, combined with a 28 hp and 50 Nm electric motor powered by a 0.4 kWh battery. The system’s combined output is 145 hp.
In the fully electric line-up, the offer includes a front-wheel-drive (single-motor) version producing 157 kW (213 hp) and 345 Nm. Its 74 kWh battery provides up to 506 km of range (WLTP combined cycle).
What price does it start from?
