February results for the Portuguese car market

Figures from ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal show Peugeot as the best-selling brand, and the manufacturer once again placed a model at the very top of Portuguese buyers’ choices. After the 208 led in January, February belonged to the Peugeot 2008, which took first place with 1052 units - a notable rise of 39,9%. As for the 208, it slipped to 16th.

Top 10: Peugeot 2008, Tesla Model 3 and Opel Corsa

While it is not unusual to see the Peugeot 2008 heading the list of Portugal’s best-sellers, the same cannot be said of the other two cars completing the podium.

In second sits the Tesla Model 3, with 845 registrations, delivering a sharp jump of 104,6% - the biggest increase within the Top 10. Third place goes to the Opel Corsa (670 units), also posting a very strong gain of 69,6%.

Just behind, separated by only one vehicle, is the Nissan Qashqai (669 units, +51,4%), followed by the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which ended the month with 501 delivered (+34,7%).

Across the remainder of the table, results were mixed. The Nissan Juke grew by 7,3% (473 units), while the Citroën C3 recorded a slight contraction of 4,9% versus 2025. The Peugeot 308 was broadly steady (+3,1%), but the Renault Clio suffered a very steep drop of 53,8% - the largest fall in the Top 10. Rounding out the Top 10 is another surprise: the Jeep Avenger. It totalled 373 units, notching one of the biggest climbs in the ranking, at 61,47%.

Outside the Top 10: the biggest percentage rises

Beyond the Top 10, there were also eye-catching surges: Mercedes-Benz GLC (1322,2%), Citroën C5 Aircross (756,25%), MG MG3 (398,59%), Peugeot 5008 (233,72%), Toyota Corolla (158,90%) and MG HS (143,94%). Even so, it is important to note that all of these models had samples below 100 units in the same month last year.

And year to date?

Looking at the first two months of 2026, the Peugeot 2008 strengthens its status as Portugal’s best-selling car, reaching 1940 units (+65,4%). Second place is now held by the Peugeot 208, on 1340 units (+1,9%). The Opel Corsa keeps third, with 1173 units (+48,11%). That makes for a podium made up entirely of Stellantis models.

Among the 10 best-selling models overall, the standout year-to-date story is the Tesla Model Y. Despite finishing February in 13th place for the month, its strong start to the year lifts it into 10th overall, with the most pronounced growth in the Top 10 (+258,6%).

In the opposite direction, the Renault Clio reinforces its clear downward trend, becoming the model with the biggest decline year to date among the market leaders (-36,85%) - a picture that should change once deliveries of the new generation begin.
