Ferrari BR20: the newest one-off from Maranello

The Ferrari BR20 is the newest one-off creation from the Cavallino Rampante marque. It took more than a year to complete, with the client closely involved throughout the process-though for the moment they remain anonymous.

Its inspiration comes from Ferrari’s lineage of grand V12 coupés from the 1950s and 1960s, including elegant models such as the 410 SA and the 500 Superfast.

From shooting brake to coupé

The donor car was Ferrari’s four-seat shooting brake, the GTC4Lusso (which ended production in 2020). Here, however, it has been reimagined as a long, distinctive two-seat coupé, while seemingly retaining its mechanical package unchanged.

V12 engine and drivetrain retained

Beneath the extended bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 6.3 l V12, delivering a maximum of 690 cv at 8000 rpm. Power is sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the car keeps four-wheel drive.

As expected, it is the design of this unique example that draws the spotlight.

Despite losing two seats compared with the GTC4Lusso, the Ferrari BR20 is 76 mm longer-thanks to the stretched rear overhang-with overall length now brushing 5.0 m. The aim was to achieve the ideal coupé silhouette with the best possible proportions.

That outline was created through a radical rework of the roofline. Ferrari’s designers, led by the brand’s design chief Flavio Manzoni, wanted the roof to look as if it were formed by just a pair of arches running from the base of the A-pillar all the way to the rear spoiler.

True to form, Ferrari did not stop at looks alone and aerodynamically refined the BR20’s new rear section. To do so, it returned to a solution from the recent past and reinterpreted the “floating” C-pillars (similar to flying buttresses in Gothic architecture) previously seen on the 599 GTB Fiorano.

Air is guided through these “floating” pillars and then expelled at the rear via a concealed outlet located beneath the rear spoiler. Also notable at the back are the pair of twin circular tail lights (in the finest Ferrari tradition) and the substantial rear diffuser, which incorporates active fins on its lower section.

Nothing appears to have been carried over directly from the GTC4Lusso without either being altered or replaced entirely. That runs from the donor car’s headlights-narrower here-to the exhaust outlets and the BR20-specific 20-inch wheels.

Luxury interior

Removing the rear seats also meant revisiting the cabin. Even so, what stands out most is the extensive use of two-tone brown leather upholstery, paired with carbon-fibre elements to create a distinctive atmosphere.

Alongside their dark brown leather finish (Heritage Testa di Moro), the seats feature an exclusive pattern as well as silver stitching.

Ferrari’s expanding one-off programme

The Ferrari BR20 is the latest addition to the Italian brand’s ever-growing list of unique models, and many more are likely to follow. Ferrari previously reported in 2019 that it had a five-year waiting list for these special projects.
