New BMW 7 Series (G70/G71): BMW i7 xDrive60 details, standard equipment and price

Still fresh from its unveiling yesterday, the new BMW 7 Series (G70/G71) arrived with a raft of changes - most notably, perhaps, the debut of its first fully electric version, carrying the i7 badge.

The BMW i7 will be the first model from the new 7 Series generation to reach customers and, in 2022, it will also be the only one sold in Europe, with deliveries available from November.

The remaining 7 Series variants will not appear until 2023 and, at least in Europe, every powertrain will be electrified - starting with the mildly hybridised 740d xDrive (diesel) and running through to the plug-in hybrids 750e xDrive and M760e xDrive.

BMW i7 xDrive60

Coming back to the i7, it will initially be offered solely as the xDrive60 - and later it will be joined by a more powerful i7 M70 xDrive.

It features two electric motors (one on each axle) delivering a combined maximum of 400 kW (544 cv) (with 745 Nm of torque). That output is enough to propel the i7’s 2715 kg (EU) to 100 km/h in a brisk 4.7s and on to an electronically limited top speed of 240 km/h.

Powering the motors is a 101.7 kWh (net) battery, enabling a maximum range of between 590 km and 625 km (depending on the equipment fitted). The stated combined consumption ranges from 19.6 kWh/100 km down to 18.4 kWh/100 km.

The BMW i7 xDrive60 supports DC charging up to 195 kW (34 minutes is sufficient to charge from 10% to 80%) and AC charging up to 22 kW (around five hours to charge from 0% to 100%).

What comes as standard?

As standard, the BMW i7 xDrive60 is equipped with 19-inch wheels (which can be increased to 22 inches), integral active steering and adaptive air suspension.

Inside, standard equipment includes a panoramic roof, electric blinds for the rear side windows and rear screen, electrically adjustable seats with memory, heated seats front and rear, four-zone climate control, ambient lighting, deep-pile carpet mats and a Bowers & Wilkins Surround sound system.

On connectivity and driver assistance, it includes BMW Live Cockpit Professional and BMW Natural Interaction, Professional digital services, plus high-beam, driving and parking assistants Plus.

In terms of lighting, all exterior lights are LED, and the ‘Iconic Glow’ feature is also present, giving the i7’s large “double kidney” grille an illuminated outline.
