We have already driven the Mitsubishi ASX in Málaga, Spain, but its arrival on the Portuguese market is expected shortly, with the launch scheduled for next month, in March.
The new generation of the Japanese brand’s SUV will be offered in three trim levels: Inform, Invite and Intense.
Mitsubishi ASX trim levels and standard equipment
Across the range, all versions come with a strong standard specification. For instance, cruise control is fitted from the entry-level model (and becomes adaptive on the top version), alongside LED headlights and an infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
And the engines?
In total, the ASX will be sold with three powertrains. The most affordable option is a turbocharged 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit, rated at 90 hp and 160 Nm of torque.
It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and can only be chosen with the Inform and Invite trims.
A step above sits a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which is combined with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. Producing 160 hp and 270 Nm, it is the most powerful non-plug-in in the line-up and is matched to a seven-speed automatic gearbox (dual-clutch).
Unlike the 1.0-litre, this engine can only be specified with the Intense equipment level, which is the range-topper.
Also exclusive to Intense is the Mitsubishi ASX PHEV, the plug-in hybrid version, a powertrain we already know from the Renault Captur E-TECH.
This set-up blends a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with 91 hp, an electric motor delivering 49 kW (67 hp), plus a second unit that works as a generator with 25 kW (34 hp). Combined, the system offers a maximum output of 160 hp.
Powering the electric drive is a 10.5 kWh battery, allowing the ASX PHEV to cover up to 49 km in electric mode (WLTP combined cycle), rising to 63 km in urban driving.
How much does it cost?
The Mitsubishi ASX range starts with the 1.0 Inform, priced at 24 590 euros. However, Mitsubishi expects the 1.0 Invite-costing 700 euros more-to be the best seller:
- ASX 1.0 Inform - 24 590 euros;
- ASX 1.0 Invite - 25 290 euros;
- ASX 1.3 mild-hybrid Intense - 29 990 euros;
As for the ASX PHEV, the retail price for private customers has not yet been announced, although pricing has been disclosed for businesses.
Mitsubishi has presented a campaign for the ASX PHEV under which it can be purchased for 27 500 euros + VAT, an amount that would place it in the first band of autonomous taxation.
Even with prices already published, Mitsubishi has noted that figures may change before the new ASX officially goes on sale.
Warranty cover for the Mitsubishi ASX
Whichever version you choose, the ASX comes with a warranty of five years or 100 000 km. For the plug-in hybrid, there is also battery cover for eight years or 160 000 km.
