The refreshed Audi Q2 and Audi SQ2 are now going on sale in Portugal, following their unveiling during the final months of 2020.
Audi’s compact SUV duo has been revised inside and out, with additional technology brought into the range.
Here’s what has changed on Ingolstadt’s pair of compact SUVs.
In Portugal
Sales of the updated Audi Q2 in Portugal begin with two petrol engines, two diesel engines, two gearboxes and three equipment lines - Base, Advanced and S Line. Separately from the rest of the line-up sits the Audi SQ2.
On the petrol side, the range starts with the 30 TFSI: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 110 cv (200 Nm), paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Next is the 35 TFSI, using a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine with 150 cv (250 Nm). When conditions allow, it can temporarily shut down two cylinders (Audi Cylinder On Demand, COD) to reduce fuel use. As well as the six-speed manual, the 35 TFSI can also be specified with the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
For diesel, both versions use the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine, offered in two outputs: 116 cv (300 Nm) and 150 cv (360 Nm), badged 30 TDI and 35 TDI respectively. The 30 TDI can be ordered with either the six-speed manual or the seven-speed S tronic, while the 35 TDI is available only with S tronic.
Both TDI variants also feature twin-dosing technology to cut NOₓ emissions, meaning they use two SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalysts. The first is positioned directly behind the engine, and the second sits further back in the exhaust system.
Three equipment lines
Every Audi Q2 engine can be combined with the same three trims: Base, Advanced and S Line.
The Base specification includes (among other items):
- 16″ alloy wheels (215/60 R16 tyres)
- Electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors
- Eight speakers
- Audi smartphone Interface and wireless charging
- MMI with an 8.3” screen and two USB ports
- Leather multifunction sports steering wheel
- Front centre armrest
- Two-zone automatic air conditioning
- Dynamic steering control (variable assistance and ratio)
- Audi pre sense front, with pedestrian and cyclist detection
- Cruise control
- LED front headlights
- Rear parking sensors
Moving to Advanced, the 16″ wheels are replaced by 17″ alloys (215/55 R17) and it adds distinguishing styling touches (for instance, the rear side blades switch to Metallic Grey rather than being body-coloured as on Base).
With a sportier look, S Line keeps the same wheel size but brings fully body-coloured bumpers, aluminium door-sill trims with an illuminated “S”, and a sports suspension set-up.
SQ2, the hot SUV
The Audi SQ2 mirrors the Q2’s updates, but there are no changes on the mechanical side. It continues with the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine (EA888), delivering 300 cv and 400 Nm of peak torque.
It is the only model in the range fitted with four-wheel drive, and it comes exclusively with the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. The result is a 0–100 km/h time of just 4.9s and a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).
Compared with other Q2 versions, the Audi SQ2 sits 20 mm closer to the road, riding on 235/45 R18 tyres. Optionally, 19″ wheels are available with 235/40 R19 tyres. Stopping power comes from 340 mm front brake discs and 310 mm rear discs. The brake calipers can also be ordered in red.
Prices
In Portugal, the updated Audi Q2 starts at 30 992 euros for the petrol 30 TFSI Base, while the most affordable diesel is the 30 TDI Base from 32 002 euros. The Audi SQ2 starts at 51 521 euros.
