Unveiled officially around two months ago, the third generation of the Audi Q3 stands out for adopting a completely fresh design language aligned with the brand’s latest models, alongside more technology and updated powertrains.
Only now has the line-up become fully rounded out, thanks to the arrival of the Sportback body style. This version sets itself apart with a coupé-inspired roofline that sits 29 mm lower.
What changes?
In simple terms: very little. Aside from the lower roofline mentioned above, the Audi Q3 Sportback carries over the styling and the same key details already seen on the “standard” Q3.
Up front, the look is defined by the new split headlamp design and the increasingly prominent Single Frame front grille. At the rear, attention is drawn to the full-width light strip and, on certain versions, illuminated four-ring Audi branding.
Inside, it is much the same story. As with the SUV variant, the new Q3 Sportback uses the same pair of displays-11.9″ for the instrument cluster and 12.8″ for the infotainment system-plus a head-up display, a Sonos sound system, and a wide range of driver-assistance features.
Despite the lower roofline, boot space has not been compromised. The new Q3 Sportback quotes the same 488 litres, rising to 575 litres thanks to rear seats that slide longitudinally.
With the seats folded, however, the Q3 Sportback offers 97 litres less than its “sibling”: 1289 litres versus 1386 litres in the Q3.
More than 100 km of range
Under the bonnet, the headline option is the new-generation plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 1.5 TSI engine (177 cv) with an electric motor (116 cv). Combined output is 272 cv (200 kW) and 400 Nm of torque.
One of the major updates is the battery, whose capacity has increased to almost double: from 10.8 kWh (in the previous generation) to 19.7 kWh (usable). In practice, that allows the new Q3 Sportback to travel up to 118 km (WLTP) in fully electric mode and to claim consumption as low as 1.7 l/100 km.
The system supports DC rapid charging of up to 50 kW, enabling a 100% charge in around 30 minutes.
The engine range does not stop at the plug-in hybrid, though: the Q3 Sportback is also offered with an entry-level petrol mild-hybrid unit (1.5 TFSI) and a Diesel option (2.0 TDI). Both deliver 150 cv (110 kW).
When does it arrive?
The new Audi Q3 Sportback reaches the Portuguese market in October, and orders can already be placed. Prices for Portugal have not yet been confirmed, but the Q3 SUV starts at €45,617 for the base version and €52,707 for the plug-in hybrid version.
