Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 7 arrive in Portugal: prices and specs

The list of Chinese car brands expanding into Portugal keeps getting longer, and Jaecoo-part of the Chery Group-is the latest arrival. Like Omoda, which has also just “landed” in the country, Jaecoo is launching with two SUVs.

The first, the Jaecoo 5, is fully electric and is quoted at just over 400 km of range. The larger, more upmarket Jaecoo 7 is a plug-in hybrid, with a claimed combined range of up to 1,200 km.

Whichever you choose, both are already available in Portugal, with prices starting at €33,900 and €38,900, respectively.

Jaecoo 5

For now, the Jaecoo 5 sits as the brand’s entry point in Portugal. Measuring 4.38 metres long, 1.86 m wide and 1.65 m tall, it blends a “nature-inspired design” with aerodynamic, modern and youthful lines.

In Portugal, the electric SUV will be sold in two trim levels: Pure and Exclusive. The latter sets itself apart by adding features such as electrically adjustable seats, an electric tailgate, tinted rear windows, among others.

Inside, the dashboard is centred around two displays: one for the instruments (8.8″) and another for the infotainment system (13.2″). Bi-zone climate control is also included and, if you opt for the higher-spec version, you also get a 50W wireless charging pad and a panoramic roof measuring 1.45 m².

The powertrain, however, does not change with trim. At its core is a 155 kW (211 hp) electric motor producing 288 Nm of torque, supplied by a 60.9 kWh battery. Combined, this setup allows the Jaecoo 5 to travel up to 402 km on the WLTP cycle.

When it comes to charging, the Chinese SUV supports charging rates ranging from 11 kW on alternating current (AC) to 130 kW on direct current (DC). With DC fast charging, taking the battery from 30% to 80% takes just 28 minutes.

Jaecoo 7

Sitting at the top of the Chinese brand’s line-up is the Jaecoo 7. This plug-in hybrid SUV is positioned around rugged styling, technology and comfort, featuring roof rails, flush door handles and Full LED headlights.

The cabin pairs a 14.8″ central screen with a 10.25″ instrument cluster and a head-up display, plus a heated and ventilated steering wheel and seats, as well as a 1.1 m² electric panoramic roof-standard on the range-topping Exclusive version.

In the best-equipped specification, an electric tailgate is also added, opening onto 340 litres of boot space or, with the rear seats folded, up to 1,265 litres.

Under the bonnet sits a 1.5-litre turbo engine that, working with an electric motor, produces up to 255 kW (340 hp) and 525 Nm. This enables a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 8.5 seconds.

As a plug-in hybrid, the Jaecoo 7 uses an 18.3 kWh battery that delivers up to 90 km of pure-electric driving, which can extend to 1,200 km with assistance from the combustion engine.

In addition, the battery supports fast charging at up to 40 kW. In practice, that means a 30% to 80% charge takes only 20 minutes. On alternating current (AC), the Jaecoo 7 accepts charging power of up to 6.6 kW.

When do they arrive?

The Jaecoo 5 and 7 can already be ordered in Portugal. Regardless of the model, both come with up to seven years or 150,000 kilometres of vehicle warranty, and up to eight years or 160,000 kilometres for the battery. See all prices:
