After years of anticipation, Jeep has finally unveiled the Recon, the brand’s first 100% electric model to wear the Trail Rated badge. We have already seen it in person during the launch of the new Jeep Compass, shown as a full-size mock-up of the North American version.
The idea is straightforward: deliver a Wrangler without an internal-combustion engine, while still staying true to Jeep DNA. That means tough proportions, removable doors and an almost full-length canvas roof, keeping the same “freedom and capability” philosophy-now delivered in complete silence.
Under the bodywork, the Recon debuts two electric motors-one on each axle-which together produce 478 kW (650 cv) and 840 Nm of torque. Those figures translate into striking performance for the kind of vehicle it is: the 0–100 km/h sprint is completed in 3.7s.
Power comes from a 100 kWh battery protected by steel skid plates, offering up to 450 km of range, depending on the version.
In terms of design, the Jeep Recon follows the American brand’s familiar styling cues, including the seven-slot front grille-now illuminated-and a U-shaped LED light signature.
What’s more, it claims to be the only 100% electric SUV on the market with removable doors, a flip-up rear window and independent rear side windows-all tool-free.
Guaranteed off-road capability
With an electric motor on each axle, four-wheel drive comes as standard and works alongside the Selec-Terrain system. From there, you can choose between five drive modes-Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand and Rock (the last of which is reserved for the Recon Moab).
To boost trail performance, the Moab version uses a shorter final drive ratio on the rear motor (15:1), ensuring more torque in “critical” situations.
The front double-wishbone suspension and rear multi-link set-up were engineered to strike a balance between on-road comfort and genuine off-road ability. On the Moab, 33-inch tyres provide 24 cm of ground clearance, with generous off-road angles: 34° approach, 34.5° departure and a 23.5° breakover angle.
According to the brand, the Recon stands out not only for how quiet it is, but also for offering extra accelerator-pedal precision on technical trails. Managing traction is handled by Selec-Speed Control, designed for steep climbs and descents.
Jeep also stresses that electrification is now part of the evolution of the 4xe concept-not as a replacement, but as a way to further strengthen the capability of its models.
More technology, the same Jeep philosophy
Inside, the Recon goes for a cabin that is both rugged and tech-focused. The instrument cluster is digital and measures 12.3 inches, paired with a 14.5-inch central touchscreen running the Uconnect 5 infotainment system.
The interior also features a two-tier centre console, modular storage, doors with customisable panels, and even mounts for cameras and accessories. The Jeep Recon Moab sets itself apart with a Joshua Tree theme, using earth tones inspired by Joshua Tree National Park.
Another Recon highlight is the Trails Offroad app, which provides detailed maps for a range of trails-for now, only in North America.
When does it arrive?
Production of the new Jeep Recon begins at the start of next year in Toluca, Mexico. The first markets to receive it will be the US and Canada, with global expansion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
However, the Moab version will be limited to North America. As for pricing, it is still too early for fully confirmed figures.
