Leapmotor B05: 401 km WLTP from 24 445 euros and up to 482 km

For a long time, buying an electric car for under 25,000 euros meant living with major compromises - shorter range, less space, or a model designed mainly for city driving.

Leapmotor is aiming to shift that mindset with the new Leapmotor B05. In entry-level form, it claims 401 km WLTP range and, as part of the launch campaign, is available to private buyers for 24 445 euros. Outside the campaign, the price is 26 285 euros.

This is not a tiny city car either. The Leapmotor B05 is a compact, five-door family car that can carry five occupants along with their luggage. It stands out for its wide proportions, frameless doors and a contemporary look that, according to the brand, is not meant to feel overly futuristic.

To help ensure it feels right on European roads, the platform was fine-tuned by Stellantis engineers at Balocco (the group’s test track in Italy), with the aim of matching European customer preferences in real-world driving.

Two batteries and up to 482 km of range

In Portugal, the Leapmotor B05 line-up is offered in just two trims: Life and Design. Both use an electric motor producing 160 kW - equivalent to 218 hp - and 240 Nm of torque, figures that only a few years ago were largely reserved for sporty variants.

The Life version - the one that fulfils the promise of more than 400 km for under 25,000 euros - comes with a 56.2 kWh battery. For drivers who need to cover longer distances, the Design variant raises capacity to 67.1 kWh and increases the certified range to 482 km.

Price and standard equipment

Inside, the cabin follows the minimalist approach now typical of newer electric cars, with most functions grouped within the Leap OS 4.0 Plus system - a platform developed by the brand itself. Even so, standard equipment is consistently generous, including on the entry model.

Ahead of the driver is an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, paired with a 14.6-inch central display. See the image gallery:

The system includes connected services and supports remote updates, removing the need to visit a dealer to receive software improvements.

Leapmotor’s app also lets owners check vehicle information and remotely operate features such as climate control. The specification also includes a panoramic roof, multiple in-cabin storage solutions, and a suite of driver-assistance systems supported by sensors and cameras.

A compact electric family car for supermini money

The Leapmotor B05’s main selling point is not a single headline feature, but the overall package: more than 400 km of range, 218 hp, family-friendly space, rapid charging and a launch price below 25,000 euros.

At 24 445 euros, the Leapmotor B05 Life positions itself as an electric family car priced like smaller city cars - and even alongside several comparable internal-combustion models.
