New Hyundai Kauai N: teaser images reveal more ahead of the debut

The unveiling of the new Hyundai Kauai N is drawing ever closer. Until that moment arrives, the South Korean brand is still “whetting the appetite” of its enthusiasts with teaser images that gradually reveal the high-performance version of the compact SUV from the East Asian manufacturer.

Hyundai N line-up before the Kauai N

Following a decisive debut with the i30 N, Hyundai’s performance division has since introduced the Veloster N (sold exclusively in the North American market), the i30 N Fastback and the i20 N, which is expected to reach local showrooms soon.

With that momentum, Hyundai has now applied a similar formula to its compact Kauai SUV and is promising comparable results-something we will only be able to verify once we get behind the wheel.

As the first images suggest, the Hyundai Kauai N will arrive with a more sporting look than other Kauai models, underscored by a lower, wider stance.

This bold, dynamic image-already a hallmark of Hyundai’s more “spiced-up” models-comes from a joint effort between Hyundai N and the Hyundai Design Centre.

Up front, the model is defined by generous air intakes and a lighting signature that gives it an aggressive, sturdy appearance. The front bumper, inspired by aircraft fuselage design, is intended to highlight aerodynamic efficiency and speed.

Moving to the rear, the most eye-catching feature is the twin-wing spoiler, which not only contributes aerodynamically but also reinforces the SUV’s sporting character, incorporating a distinctive triangular brake light. It also features two huge exhaust outlets that are impossible to miss, along with a large air diffuser.

Finished with body-coloured protective elements, the Kauai N also includes N-specific details such as uniquely styled alloy wheels and red accents along the side skirts.

What do we know?

Hyundai is still keeping the Kauai N specifications under the “secret of the gods”, but it has already confirmed that its new high-performance SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine-the same unit we already know from the i30 N and Veloster N.

The output remains unannounced, although it is reasonable to expect it could match the 250 hp of the updated i30 N’s base version. But will there also be a 280 hp variant with the Performance Package? The question remains…

What is certain for now is that the new Hyundai Kauai N will be equipped with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the N DCT-the same one fitted to the new i30 N.
