The updated Mercedes-Benz CLS was unveiled only a few weeks ago and, ahead of its arrival in the domestic market next July, the German brand has now confirmed which versions will make up the range and how much they will cost.
Launched a little over three years ago, this refresh brings only subtle changes compared with the CLS we already know.
Subtle exterior updates to the Mercedes-Benz CLS
On the outside, the revisions are largely limited to a newly styled bumper featuring a fresh grille and a new full-width lower intake. There are also two new 19″ alloy wheel designs.
Cabin updates
Inside, the most noticeable change is the new nappa leather multifunction steering wheel, first introduced on the E-Class when it was updated last year. Also worth noting are the new combinations available for the interior trim finishes.
Engines and specifications
The biggest news with this refreshed Mercedes-Benz CLS sits under the bonnet. Mercedes’ new OM 654 M four-cylinder Diesel unit with 2,0 l of capacity - the most powerful of its kind - is now included in the engine line-up.
This engine is fitted to the CLS 300 d 4MATIC, producing 265 cv and 550 Nm of torque. It is supported by a 48 V mild-hybrid system in which the motor-generator can, under certain conditions, provide a brief extra 20 cv of power and 200 Nm of torque.
Alongside it, there are two more diesel options (220 d and 400 d) and three petrol options (350, 450), including the AMG-badged CLS 53 4MATIC+. Across the entire range, every engine is paired exclusively with a nine-speed automatic transmission:
- CLS 220 d - 1.95 l (OM 654, 4 cil. em linha), 194 cv às 3800 rpm, 400 Nm entre 1600-2800 rpm, 6,4-5,5 l/100 km e 167-143 g/km CO₂;
- CLS 300 d 4MATIC - 2.0 l (OM 654 M, 4 cil. em linha), 265 cv às 4200 rpm, 550 Nm entre 1800-2200 rpm, 6,6-5,8 l/100 km e 172-153 g/km CO₂;
- CLS 400 d 4MATIC - 3.0 l (OM 656, 6 cil. em linha) 330 cv entre 3600-4200 rpm, 700 Nm entre 1200-3200 rpm, 7,4-6,7 l/100 km e 194-175 g/km CO₂;
