The Renault 5 Turbo 3E has been introduced as the all-electric successor to the iconic Renault 5 Turbo. The brand describes it as a “mini-supercar”, pairing two electric motors with 408 kW (555 hp) in a car that measures just over four metres in length.

Public debut at the Tour de Corse rally

Although it is still in the testing phase, Renault brought two prototypes to the Tour de Corse rally on the island of Corsica for their first public demonstrations ahead of the car’s market launch, with Julien Saunier, ambassador for the French brand, behind the wheel.

The appearance took place before the start of the event, which ends on 11 October and which, this year, marks the 40th anniversary of Jean Ragnotti’s victory in 1985.

According to Renault, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is the first model in the electric “mini-supercar” category, blending the compact footprint of a city car - 4.08 m long and 2.03 m wide - with the devastating performance of a supercar.

Made by Alpine

This 100% electric follow-up to the legendary Renault 5 Turbo was developed by Alpine, the performance brand within the Renault Group. Built on a purpose-designed platform and reinforced with carbon elements, the French “mini-supercar” uses two electric motors integrated into the rear axle.

Each motor produces the equivalent of 204 kW (277 hp), giving a combined output of 408 kW (555 hp) and 4800 Nm (!). To improve torque distribution, each rear wheel can be controlled independently, boosting agility and performance.

Performance figures for the Renault 5 Turbo 3E

On the performance front, it completes 0–100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds, helped by a low (for an EV) kerb weight of under 1450 kg. That figure is particularly notable given the battery capacity: 70 kWh.

Battery, charging and WLTP range

Thanks to its 800 V electrical architecture, the battery supports DC charging power of up to 330 kW, enabling a 15% to 80% charge in just 15 minutes. As for range, Renault states more than 400 km on the WLTP cycle.

Available to reserve

Even though testing is ongoing, the brand says that most specifications are already locked in, with the homologation process under way.

Production will be limited to 1980 units - a number that pays tribute to the year the original model was launched - and the new Renault 5 Turbo 3E has been available to reserve since April, with prices starting at €155,000. Securing one of the allocations, however, requires a €50,000 deposit.

The personalisation phase is only scheduled to begin in early 2026. Customers will then be able to finalise their configuration and place the definitive order from the start of 2027, with deliveries planned for the same year.
