Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae: limited edition of 600 bids farewell

Lamborghini has just unveiled the new Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae to the world: a limited run of 600 cars that serves as a send-off for the Aventador, 10 years after its debut, and also a farewell to the V12 in its pure, naturally aspirated form.

From Sant’Agata Bolognese, the firm is positioning this edition as a final tribute to the naturally aspirated V12-because the Aventador’s successor will pair its engine with an auxiliary electric system.

For the Aventador’s “grand finale”, the Italian manufacturer set out to create the ultimate Aventador. To do that, it blended the Aventador S’s look with the Aventador SVJ’s performance, resulting in the LP 780-4 Ultimae presented here.

This is, as it could hardly be otherwise, our slightly romanticised take on the “question”, since the LP 780-4 Ultimae is, in practical terms, a fresh version of the supercar that will be offered in both Coupé and Roadster form.

Design and aerodynamics of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae

The changes start at the very front, with a completely new nose-although several cues immediately call the Aventador S to mind. The active front air diffuser is also new, as are the vertical dividers finished in red within the side air intakes.

At the rear, you’ll find a similar treatment on the protrusions of the enormous carbon-fibre air diffuser. Even so, the biggest talking point is arguably what’s missing: the imposing fixed rear wing seen, for instance, on the Aventador SVJ. In its place sits an active spoiler that can adopt three distinct positions: closed, maximum performance (maximum performance) and maximum handling (maximum handling).

All told, even with an aerodynamic package that’s less aggressive than the SVJ’s, this Aventador Ultimae achieves comparable aerodynamic efficiency and cooling.

The last V12 without electric “help”

Where this Aventador stands out most is under the skin. It uses the 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 (first introduced by the model itself 10 years ago), delivering 780 hp (at 6500 rpm) and 720 Nm of peak torque-making it the most powerful road-going variant so far, although there is an even more potent track-only version in the Essenza SCV12. Power is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed semi-automatic (ISR) gearbox.

Coupé vs Roadster: acceleration and top speed

Despite being 25 kg heavier than the Aventador SVJ, the Ultimae claims genuinely striking figures: in Coupé form it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 s, while the Roadster does the same in 2.9 s. Top speed is identical for both versions, set at 355 km/h.

The Aventador Ultimae offers three driving modes-Strada, Sport and Corsa-joined by a new mode called Ego. Ego allows you to adjust the active suspension settings (LMS), the steering (four-wheel steering), all-wheel drive, gearbox parameters and the engine’s injection maps.

When does it arrive?

Lamborghini has confirmed it will build only 600 examples of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae, split between the Coupé (350 units) and the Roadster (250 units).

It’s not yet known when it will reach Portugal or what it will cost. However, we can say that its first public appearance is scheduled for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom, which “kicks off” tomorrow.
