Nearly four years after it first went on sale, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been updated and is now on sale in Portugal, with prices starting at €43,000.

Hyundai IONIQ 5: battery, range and pricing

At a glance, the changes are easy to miss - aside from the redesigned front and rear bumpers - but underneath the bodywork there are some notable upgrades, including a larger battery and, as a result, a longer electric driving range.

The IONIQ 5 swaps its previous 77.4 kWh battery for a new 84 kWh unit, lifting the range to up to 570 km (WLTP combined) - 63 km more than before. The entry-level version uses a 63 kWh battery. The full price list is as follows:

On pricing, the standout offer is the one aimed at companies and self-employed buyers (ENI): from €29,900 + VAT. This is part of a promotional campaign running until 30 September and limited to available stock.

Four versions available

In addition to the exterior tweaks, the cabin also brings several updates, including a new steering wheel, extra physical buttons on the sliding centre console, the wireless smartphone charging pad moved to a new position, and a revised layout for the infotainment and climate controls.

The updated IONIQ 5 line-up in Portugal is made up of four versions: Premium, Premium Plus, Vanguard and Vanguard Plus.

Beyond the drivetrain, the different IONIQ 5 versions also vary in the equipment they offer. The base version includes front and rear parking sensors, a front camera, 19-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, and other features.

Premium Plus adds leather seats, a heated steering wheel and an electrically operated tailgate, among other items. Vanguard stands out by bringing a Head-up Display, automatic flush door handles and a Bose Premium sound system.

At the top of the range, Vanguard Plus further enhances the specification with 20-inch wheels, a 360-degree camera, remote parking and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, among other functions.

Charging performance and safety

Charging times remain unchanged. Thanks to its 800 V electrical architecture, the IONIQ 5 supports 260 kW charging power, enabling up to 350 km of range to be added in just 18 minutes on DC rapid charging.

On the safety front, highlights include the new steering wheel with hands-on detection, lane-keeping assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA 2) and a parking collision-avoidance assist system.
