BMW M2 2024 updated with more power and a revised interior

Alongside the “standard” 2 Series versions, BMW has also refreshed the M2, the most powerful and most performance-focused model in the range.

BMW M2 2024: more power for BMW’s compact M car

The BMW M2 2024 stands out primarily for its increased output: the 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with two turbochargers now produces 480 hp, which is 20 hp more than before, bringing it level with the larger “base” M4 when fitted with a manual gearbox.

As with the M4, power is sent exclusively to the rear axle. A six-speed manual gearbox remains available as an option, aimed at drivers looking for a more “analogue” feel.

Performance figures

In terms of performance, BMW M claims a tenth of a second improvement in the 0–100 km/h sprint (with the automatic gearbox), which now takes exactly 4.0 seconds. With the manual gearbox, the official figure is 4.2s.

To reach 200 km/h, the BMW M2 takes 12.9s (13.7s with the manual gearbox). Top speed remains limited to 250 km/h, although this rises to 285 km/h with the M Driver’s Package.

Interior changes are more noticeable

If the exterior updates are almost imperceptible-limited to the badges and a new black finish for the exhaust tips-there is more to note inside.

Before getting into the cabin, it is worth mentioning that the BMW M2 can be specified with a carbon-fibre roof, which reduces overall weight by around six kilograms while also lowering the car’s centre of gravity.

In the cockpit, as on the 2 Series, the biggest change is the horizontal curved display, combining the digital instrument cluster (12.3”) and the infotainment screen (14.9”), with touch control.

BMW OS 8.5, infotainment and new controls

The latest operating system (BMW OS 8.5) brings access to additional connected features, including an app store, for example. Even so, the overall interface design remains specific to M models, with dedicated M screens intended for more “committed” driving.

The updated interface has also introduced new on-screen controls for the touchscreen-such as climate functions-which has led to a redesigned centre console. This arrives alongside a more advanced ambient lighting system.

BMW M2 already available

The updated BMW M2 is now available to order in Portugal, with a starting price of 95 thousand euros. For the version equipped with the manual gearbox, the base price increases to 97 419 euros.

In addition, and beyond the already generous standard equipment, the new BMW M2 can be configured with a long list of options. These include more track-oriented carbon-fibre sports seats and a newly expanded selection of steering wheels with a more appealing look.
