Porsche 911 Turbo S (992) arrives with 650 hp and 800 Nm

The 992 generation of the ever-present 911 has just gained what is, for now, its most potent member: the new Porsche 911 Turbo S, offered in both coupé and cabriolet form. Interestingly, Porsche has unveiled only the Turbo S at this stage, keeping the “regular” Turbo back for another time.

As the range-topper, the new 911 Turbo S makes its point immediately, delivering 650 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque. That’s a sizeable step up over the previous 991 generation - an extra 70 hp and 50 Nm.

It’s enough to launch the new machine to 100 km/h in just 2.7s (0.2s quicker than its predecessor), and it needs only 8.9s to reach 200 km/h, a full second faster than the previous 911 Turbo S. Top speed stays at 330 km/h - do you really need more?

Six-cylinder boxer, what else?

Porsche says the new 911 Turbo S six-cylinder boxer is a new engine, even though capacity remains at 3.8 l. Developed from the 911 Carrera’s engine, the boxer gains a redesigned cooling system; two new variable-geometry turbochargers with electronically adjustable vanes for the wastegate valve; and piezo injectors.

Focusing on the pair of variable-geometry turbos, they are symmetrical, spin in opposite directions, and are larger than before. The turbine grows from 50 mm to 55 mm, while the compressor wheel is now 61 mm - 3 mm bigger than previously.

Power from the six-cylinder boxer reaches the road through all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the well-known PDK, here in a Turbo S-specific version.

On the dynamics side, the new Porsche 911 Turbo S comes as standard with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) and a ride height lowered by 10 mm. The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system can now send more force to the front axle, up to 500 Nm.

Wheel sizes also differ by axle for the first time. Up front they are 20 in, fitted with 255/35 tyres, while the rear uses 21 in wheels with 315/30 tyres.

Bigger and more distinctive

Not only is it more powerful and faster, the new 911 Turbo S has also grown - in line with what we have already seen in the move from the 991 to the 992 generation. There’s an extra 45 mm of width over the front axle (track wider by 42 mm) and 20 mm over the rear axle (track wider by 10 mm), bringing total width to 1.90 m.

Visually, it stands out through its twin light modules and the standard LED Matrix headlights with black inserts. The front spoiler extends pneumatically, and the redesigned rear wing can generate up to 15% more downforce. The exhaust outlets keep the familiar 911 Turbo look, with their rectangular shape.

Inside, the highlights include leather trim and carbon-fibre inlays with Light Silver (silver) details. The PCM infotainment system centres on a 10.9 in touchscreen; a GT sports steering wheel, 18-way adjustable sports seats, and a BOSE® Surround Sound audio system round out the package.

When does it arrive?
