By chance, the latest spy photos of the new Dacia Logan MCV - the Logan range’s estate - landed with us almost at the same time as the first official teasers from the Romanian brand for its next model.
Those teasers show a virtual mock-up of what Dacia’s exhibition stand will look like at the upcoming Munich Motor Show, due to take place in early September.
Dacia at the Munich Motor Show: five covered models
As shown below, Dacia’s stand features five vehicles under covers, with one of them standing out thanks to an estate-like silhouette (albeit a low one, so it may not be fully representative of what we will actually see). The statement accompanying the images says the Munich Motor Show has been chosen as the stage to unveil “an all-new versatile seven-seat family car”.
“Caught” during summer testing
The spy shots make it easier to read the overall proportions of the new model, which is derived from the Logan saloon (not sold in Portugal) that moved to a new generation at the same time as the Sandero - a model we have already tested.
Even under heavy camouflage, the new car’s shape comes through clearly and, like the Logan MCV we knew, it appears to sit somewhere between a traditional estate and an MPV.
While the front end looks as though it is shared with the Logan - with the possibility of some styling differences on the bumpers and grille compared with the saloon - the changes become clear from the A-pillar onwards, or rather above it, where the roof rises higher than on the saloon. That extra height is paired with a longer wheelbase and a bulkier rear section, creating the space needed for a third row of seats.
At the back, meanwhile, there are a few cues that, at first glance, feel close to the look of a Volvo estate or SUV. That impression comes from the vertical rear lights that form a distinct “shoulder”, following the body’s outer lines.
Ground clearance and the Stepway possibility
The test prototype captured in these spy photos also appears to have fairly generous ground clearance, which could indicate it is the Stepway version, as seen on the Sandero.
It is worth noting that, despite offering seven seats, the Logan MCV is not the production version of the Bigster, the seven-seat SUV concept revealed at the start of the year. That model is due to arrive during 2022.
What else can we expect?
Given its technical closeness to the Logan and Sandero, it is reasonable to expect it to share the same engines and gearboxes, even allowing for the larger body and the increased carrying capacity (for both people and luggage).
It is also possible that the new Logan MCV will be the model chosen to debut Dacia’s new logo, although that detail still needs confirmation.
The new Dacia Logan MCV will be revealed on 3 September, with its first public appearance following a few days later on 6 September, at the start of the Munich Motor Show.
