Renault 4L: plans for its 60th anniversary

White classic Renault 4 car with mint green wheels displayed in a modern showroom.

In 1961, Renault introduced the 4L, a practical workhorse that would go on to become one of the French manufacturer’s most legendary models. Over more than 30 years in production - ending in 1992 - more than eight million units were built, and it was sold in over 100 countries.

The model will receive fitting recognition this year to mark its 60th anniversary.

How Renault will mark the Renault 4L 60th anniversary

Renault has put together a run of events and exclusive content to celebrate 60 years of the 4L, although most of it will be centred on social media - blame the pandemic. The programme Renault has mapped out promises something new on the 4th and 14th of every month - the calendar may change due to the crisis that is still unfolding.

Collectors and other well-known figures will also be involved, giving us the chance to explore the 4L’s story in greater depth. Here is the planned schedule:

The calendar of Renault 4L anniversary events

February - Illustrator Greg will bring to life more than a dozen 4Ls, using graphic worlds that reflect the different eras the Renault model has passed through. The anniversary will also be a chance to discover various stories experienced at the wheel of this iconic car (from 8 February on social media).

From 14 February, the Atelier Renault on the Champs-Élysées will host a 4L in its “Parisienne” version, instantly recognisable thanks to its distinctive bodywork decoration.

March - Renault Classic, the division tasked with preserving Renault’s heritage, will spotlight 30 Renault 4L models, including 12 one-off versions.
