New Toyota RAV4 arrives in Europe in its sixth generation

Toyota used the Brussels Motor Show to officially unveil the new-generation RAV4 in Europe, marking the start of its market launch. One of the brand’s most important models - and one of the world’s best-sellers - now moves into its sixth generation, bringing clear updates to its styling, technology and electrification strategy.

Design changes on the new Toyota RAV4

From the outside, the latest RAV4 adopts a tougher, more geometric design language, echoing familiar cues seen across Toyota’s newest models.

Up front, the look is sharper, with a slimmer LED light signature and a larger grille that gives it more road presence. At the rear, the RAV4 remains instantly recognisable, but the lines are cleaner and the lighting system is more advanced.

In terms of overall dimensions, there are no major changes compared with the current model. Even so, Toyota has refined the details to improve aerodynamics and the perceived quality, while keeping the identity that has always defined the RAV4.

Cabin, software and Toyota Safety Sense upgrades

The interior is where the step forward is most obvious. The dashboard now follows a more horizontal layout, paired with new materials, tidier control placement and a stronger shift towards digital displays - both for the instrument cluster and the multimedia system.

Safety technology has also been strengthened, thanks to a new generation of Toyota Safety Sense and more capable driver-assistance features. In addition, the new Toyota RAV4 adopts the Arene software platform, enabling over-the-air updates and greater flexibility for future developments.

Electrification remains the central focus

For Europe, Toyota is keeping electrification at the heart of the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4. The line-up will be offered exclusively with hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) systems.

For the hybrid versions, the set-up pairs a 2.5-litre petrol engine with electric motors, delivering improved efficiency and a smoother response. In AWD-i (all-wheel drive) form, maximum combined output will be 304 cv. In the RAV4 plug-in hybrid with front-wheel drive (a new addition to the range), output is 268 cv. As for the hybrid that does not require external charging, it is available only with front-wheel drive and produces 183 cv.

As a plug-in hybrid, the Toyota RAV4 2026 is expected to cover 100 km in 100% electric mode (subject to final homologation) on the combined WLTP cycle. The hybrid system is new, as is the lithium-ion battery, which has grown by 30% to 22.68 kWh.

Toyota also confirmed the arrival of the RAV4 GR Sport, and it is not merely a sportier-looking trim. This Gazoo Racing-flavoured option also brings suspension and chassis changes that promise a more engaging driving feel, while still keeping everyday usability in mind.

When will it arrive?

As Toyota previously indicated, the new-generation Toyota RAV4 will reach the European market during the first quarter of this year, with pricing to be announced soon.
