Toyota Corolla Concept debuts at Japan Mobility Show 2025

The Toyota Corolla is unquestionably one of the best-known names in the global car industry - and for good reason: it has topped the list of the world’s best-selling cars on multiple occasions. Now, at the Tokyo show (Japan Mobility Show 2025), the brand has presented a concept that previews the model’s next generation.

Called the Corolla Concept, this prototype introduces an entirely fresh look and signals the start of a new chapter for Toyota’s most popular model. The styling is more dynamic and more futuristic, with stretched-out proportions.

Toyota Corolla Concept design: exterior and proportions

From a design standpoint, the Corolla Concept features sculpted surfaces and a smooth, flowing silhouette that brings it closer to a fastback. It is almost Prius-like in approach, for instance, but with more generous overall dimensions.

At the front, the lighting set-up is formed by a horizontal light bar (as seen in the gallery above), which ends with the same sharp, angular outlines found on Toyota’s latest models. With no traditional grille, it hints that combustion engines may not have been part of the plan. But is that really the case? We’ll come back to that…

Around the back, the prototype adopts a visual signature that runs across the entire rear of the body, now executed in a more “pixelised” style. The model name sits centrally on the boot lid. It’s a direction that sits far from the more conservative image of earlier generations.

Minimalist cabin and fully digital instrumentation

Inside, minimalism takes centre stage. The cabin is built around a raised central console, very few physical controls and a fully digital instrument display. Everything has been designed to create a sense of lightness and modernity, while still protecting space and practicality - two of the key reasons behind the Toyota Corolla’s worldwide success.

Ready for every type of powertrain

Despite what the styling might suggest, Toyota has confirmed that the Corolla Concept was engineered to accommodate multiple powertrain options: from combustion-engined versions to hybrid solutions and fully electric set-ups. That flexibility will be one of the foundations of the new generation, allowing the model to suit different markets and different levels of electrification.

With no technical specifications confirmed yet, the Corolla Concept points towards a flexible architecture and a clearer push towards electrification, without giving up the reliability that has always defined the Corolla.
