Peugeot 308 SW arrives in Portugal from €27,800

Following the 308 hatchback, the Peugeot 308 SW estate is now making its debut on the Portuguese market. It is one of the most anticipated versions of this French family car and it is already on sale, with prices starting at €27,800.

Even in its entry-level form, the standard equipment list includes the key comfort and safety systems-although the optional extras in Peugeot’s configurator are very hard to ignore.

In the video, we highlight some of those options on one of the most desirable trims: the Peugeot 308 SW GT Plug-in Hybrid 225-the estate’s most powerful and best-equipped variant.

New Peugeot 308: hatchback or estate?

From the outside, the differences between the estate and the hatchback are immediately clear-especially when you view the new Peugeot 308 from the side or from the rear.

Overall length on the Peugeot 308 SW is 4.64 m, compared with just 4.37 m for the hatchback. The wheelbase has also been extended by 55 mm, which has helped increase boot space so this French family car can meet the demands of more space-hungry households.

On versions powered solely by combustion engines, the Peugeot 308 SW provides a generous 608 litres of luggage capacity, rising to 1,634 litres with the rear seats folded (40/20/40 split).

The plug-in hybrid variants lose 60 litres of capacity due to battery packaging, but that reduction does not undermine the model’s family-focused brief.

Which engine is best for me?

In Portugal, the new Peugeot 308 SW is offered with three types of powertrain: diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid.

Diesel choice centres on the familiar 1.5 BlueHDi with 130 hp, available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic.

For petrol, the line-up relies exclusively on the 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder engine, sold in two outputs: 110 hp (only with a six-speed manual) and 130 hp (with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic).

Finally, there are the plug-in hybrid versions, which are particularly attractive for companies able to access significant tax benefits. Two options are available: one with 180 hp of combined maximum power and another with 225 hp of combined maximum power.

Range and consumption of the Peugeot 308 SW

Both plug-in hybrid versions share the same lithium-ion battery supporting the hybrid system. It has a capacity of 12.4 kWh and can deliver up to 60 km in 100% electric mode.

In the more powerful version-featured in the video-the 308 SW estate claims average consumption of 1.1 l/100 km and 26 g/km per 100 km. It needs just 7.6 s to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h.

The 130 hp diesel versions, meanwhile, quote combined consumption of 4.4 l/100 km and 115 g/km, although 0 to 100 km/h acceleration increases to 10.7 s and top speed drops to 207 km/h.

As for the variants using the 1.2 petrol engine with 130 hp and the EAT8 gearbox, the published combined consumption is 5.8 l/100 km and emissions are 131 g/km. In this case, 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.9 s and top speed is set at 210 km/h.

Equipment levels

The new Peugeot 308 SW estate range starts with the Active Pack trim, available in Portugal from €27,800.

At this level, you’ll find features such as:

• Digital instrument panel with 25.4 cm (10") display
• Dual-zone automatic air conditioning with active charcoal filter
• Leather steering wheel with grey stitching and a chrome lion emblem
• Peugeot Connect Radio + Peugeot Connect SOS & Assistance
• Electrically folding door mirrors
• Height-adjustable driver and front passenger seats
• 16" Auckland alloy wheels (17" Calgary on Plug-in Hybrid versions)

Allure versions start at €31,020 and add items including tinted rear side windows and rear screen, the Safety Plus Pack, and the Connected Navigation Pack + i-Toggles.

GT versions, in addition to more sportily styled bumpers and Peugeot branding on the sides of the body, stand out for their Full LED headlights with Peugeot Matrix LED Technology, 18" Kamura alloy wheels, and a Mistral leather steering wheel with Adamite stitching and a chrome lion emblem.

On top of that, GT models carry their sportier theme into the cabin too, with specific leather and microfibre trim finishes on the seats and dashboard.
