Alfa Romeo has unveiled an updated Tonale, intended to make the SUV more competitive while staying true to the Italian brand’s DNA. On the outside, the proportions have been subtly tweaked, and the Scudetto (front grille) has been reworked with a new concave, three-dimensional look inspired by the 33 Stradale.
The lighting keeps the distinctive “3+3” signature within the headlamp clusters, but the graphic has been revised to give the front end a more horizontal stance. There are also fresh alloy wheel designs, with choices ranging from 17″ to 20”, while the badge now sits on a black-and-white background, echoing the approach first seen on the Alfa Romeo Junior.
Inside, the changes are even more noticeable. New trims include red leather or two-tone Alcantara, pairing black with white for a strong contrast. The “cannelloni” seats, with visible stitching, are designed to enhance the sense of quality. On the Tonale’s centre console, alongside a redesigned layout, there is now a rotary selector used to operate the gearbox.
For the new Tonale, buyers can also opt for a 470 W Harman Kardon audio system with 14 speakers, aimed at significantly improving the in-car atmosphere.
This Tonale update retains the twin digital displays: a 12,3” instrument cluster and a 10,25” infotainment screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Sharper Alfa Romeo Tonale dynamics
For the Alfa Romeo Tonale 2026, the chassis has been reworked to deliver greater stability and quicker reactions. The steering remains the most direct in its segment (13,6:1), and four-piston Brembo brakes are included as standard equipment.
The suspension can be specified with electronic dampers using Dual Stage Valve (DSV) or Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology, aiming to strike a more effective balance between comfort and agility. Plug-in hybrid versions feature Q4 all-wheel drive and by-wire braking, similar to what is used on the Giulia and Stelvio.
There’s another plug-in hybrid
On the powertrain side, every Alfa Romeo Tonale engine now meets the Euro 6E-bis standard. The line-up continues to include a mild-hybrid system built around a 1,5-litre engine producing 175 cv (+15 cv than before), driving the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
For those focused on running costs, the 1,6-litre Diesel with 130 cv remains on the options list. At the top of the range, the Plug-in Hybrid Q4 system is now offered with two combined maximum power outputs: 190 cv and 270 cv (-10 cv than before). Power is always sent to all four wheels, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It is not yet clear whether the electric-only range has improved.
Tonale: range and on-sale timing
In terms of paintwork, the Alfa Romeo Tonale will be available in eight colours, including three new metallic finishes: Rosso Brera, Verde Monza and Giallo Ocra. With the optional black roof, the colour contrast becomes even more striking.
The new Tonale comes in four trims - Tonale, Sprint, Ti and Veloce - and the brand is promising a generous equipment level across the board.
Sitting at the very top is the Sport Speciale launch edition, set apart by exclusive details. Highlights include black-and-white Alcantara seats, contrasting white stitching, and Brembo brake calipers finished in gloss black.
Officially presented in Pisa - a city associated with art and technology - the updated model is expected to reach European roads in the first half of 2026, with pricing in line with the current range.
