As with the 2021 edition, the headline act at the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, USA, is an all-electric Wrangler - specifically the latest evolution of last year’s prototype, now called the Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0.
Jeep hasn’t limited itself to a single showpiece, though. Staying true to tradition, the brand has prepared six additional prototypes for the Moab desert, with several of them also featuring some level of electrification.
In this “2.0” iteration, the Wrangler Magneto has gained a significant power boost, now producing 625 hp and 1152 Nm - a big jump from the 289 hp and 370 Nm quoted for the prototype revealed last year. The battery, however, remains unchanged at 70 kWh, and it continues to use 800 V technology.
Interestingly for a 100% electric model, the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 still uses a six-speed manual gearbox, sending that huge torque to all four wheels.
Running on 40” wheels (overall wheel and tyre diameter) and Dynatrac differentials, this Wrangler makes it clear it’s “like a fish in water” off-road. Even so, it claims 0 to 96 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 2s.
Built from the three-door version of the American off-roader, the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 has nevertheless had its wheelbase stretched by 30 cm - to better package the components of its drivetrain - and its ground clearance increased by around 7 cm.
Jeep ’41 Concept
If the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 points to Jeep’s future, the Jeep ’41 Concept is a direct nod to the brand’s earliest roots.
Developed from the Wrangler 4xe, this concept wears paintwork matching that used on the original 1941 Willys models, along with 35” wheels, steel rims, a winch, and a ride height around 5 cm taller than the donor vehicle.
Jeep Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept
As the name suggests, the Jeep Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept is designed to mark 20 years since the launch of the first Wrangler Rubicon.
Fitted with the same 6.4 V8 as the Wrangler 492 and an active exhaust, this prototype pairs grey bodywork with a red interior. It also features 17” Mopar wheels wrapped in 37” tyres, adds 5 centimetres of ground clearance, and includes the “mandatory” underbody protection for key mechanical components.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe Concept
Not every prototype Jeep is bringing to the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari is Wrangler-based - and the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe Concept is the clearest example.
Compared with other Grand Cherokee 4xe versions, this concept gets a bespoke interior, 20” wheels with 33” BFGoodrich all-terrain tyres, tougher paintwork, and model-specific roof bars.
Jeep Bob Concept
Like the Grand Cherokee, the Gladiator pick-up has also served as a starting point for some of the builds. In the case of the intriguingly named Jeep Bob Concept, the American pick-up has had its load bed “cut down” - with its name coming from the US term used for this exact modification, “bobbing”.
Shortening a pick-up bed is done to improve off-road angles; on this Bob Concept it’s further helped by a dedicated bumper designed to deliver a better approach angle.
With 20” rims and 40” tyres, the wheelarches have been cut as well. Powered by a 3.0 V6 Diesel, the prototype also features a canvas roof, extra lights, and a long list of changes intended to make it unstoppable off-road: Dynatrac axles, a bespoke suspension setup almost 8 cm taller, new dampers, and new suspension springs.
Jeep Performance Parts D-Coder Concept
Also based on the Gladiator, the Jeep Performance Parts D-Coder Concept acts as a rolling showcase for the “Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar” catalogue.
The standout detail is that every accessory (35 in total) is finished in “Maraschino Red”, and each one even carries a QR code so interested buyers can locate it in the catalogue.
Jeep Performance Parts Birdcage Concept
Another build created by “Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar”, this prototype is notable for ditching its side windows, windscreen and roof.
With a more adventure-ready look and auxiliary lighting, it also comes with a winch, 37” tyres, Fox dampers and an additional 5 centimetres of ground clearance.
The others
Alongside the prototypes built specifically for the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari, Jeep will also bring several concept vehicles previously shown at the 2021 SEMA event.
As a result, attendees will also see the seven-seat Wrangler Overlook Concept, the Wrangler 4xe SEMA Concept, and the Kaiser Jeep M725.
