High Precision Complexes delivers modernised BMP-3 IFVs to the Russian Ground Forces

High Precision Complexes has confirmed the handover of a fresh batch of modernised BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Russian Ground Forces. Russia’s state-owned Rostec has not disclosed the exact quantity, although the group says this shipment includes more vehicles than those delivered in recent months. As noted, the IFVs incorporate changes aimed at improving protection against blasts and fragmentation.

Delivery of modernised BMP-3 IFVs to the Russian Ground Forces

The latest batch of BMP-3 IFVs arrives with further upgrades to blast protection, covering both the hull and the top of the vehicle. It also features new anti-fragmentation measures installed at the front and rear of the vehicles, alongside equipment intended to improve the effective employment of weaponry-complementing the upgraded electronic warfare system already fitted to the IFV. This batch was transferred to the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation under the state defence contract signed with the domestic holding.

Protection enhancements and updated onboard systems

These newly delivered IFVs add to the wider flow of military equipment being supplied to Russia’s Armed Forces as part of efforts to restore capabilities lost during the conflict with Ukraine. According to the estimates cited, the Armed Forces are believed to have lost more than 7,500 IFVs, of which 700 vehicles would correspond to the BMP-3 model. One of the most recent BMP-3 IFV deliveries dates to May 2025, following earlier receipts of T-72B3M and T-90M tank batches.

Production pace for BMP-3 and battlefield-driven changes

On the manufacturing tempo for BMP-3 vehicles, Bekkhan Ozdoyev-industrial director of Rostec’s armaments cluster and a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia-commented: “Since the start of the special operation, the production volumes shipped by ‘High Precision Complexes’ increase every year. Today they already triple the previous figures. At the same time, taking into account experience at the front, the appearance of combat vehicles is also changing”.

BMP-3M baseline and key specifications

The BMP-3 vehicles recently delivered to the Russian Armed Forces may be based on the BMP-3M variant, an improved version of the BMP-3 IFV. This model incorporates changes to its firepower through the 660hp UTD-32 engine, the Bakhcha-U turret, and armoured protection designed to withstand impacts from 12.7mm projectiles, as well as an explosive reactive armour kit intended to counter hollow-charge anti-tank munitions. It also includes the Sodema sighting system with an integrated laser rangefinder.
