Renault Arkana lands in Portugal from 31 600 euros

The Renault Arkana, the newest addition to Renault’s SUV line-up, has just “landed” on the Portuguese market, with prices starting at 31 600 euros.

Built on the CMF-B platform - the same architecture used by the latest Clio and Captur - the Arkana is presented as the first SUV Coupé in its segment to be launched by a mainstream manufacturer.

As if that were not enough to “put it on the map”, it also carries the significant responsibility of being the first model in the “Renaulution” offensive - the Renault Group’s new strategic plan aimed at steering the company towards profitability rather than market share or sheer sales volume.

There is, therefore, no shortage of reasons to take an interest in the Arkana, which targets a corner of the market that until now has largely been reserved for premium brands.

It all starts with the look…

Renault positions the Arkana as a sporty SUV, making it a fresh proposition within the brand’s range. Its exterior blends elegance with a tougher, more robust stance, and these visual traits are pushed further in the R.S. Line version, which adds an extra “touch” of sportiness.

The Arkana is also the fourth model in the Renault line-up (after the Clio, Captur and Mégane) to offer an R.S. Line variant, drawing inspiration from Renault Sport DNA and, of course, the “all-powerful” Mégane R.S.

Alongside the exclusive Valencia Orange paint, the Arkana R.S. Line is distinguished by black and dark metal-effect detailing, as well as uniquely styled bumpers and alloy wheels.

Interior: technology and space

Inside the cabin, there are several clear similarities with the current Captur. In practice, that means a more tech-focused interior with a sportier feel, without sacrificing space.

Technology in the new Arkana centres on a digital instrument cluster available in 4.2”, 7” or 10.2”, depending on the chosen trim, plus a central touchscreen offered in two sizes: 7” or 9.3”. The larger display - one of the biggest in the segment - is mounted vertically in a tablet-style layout.

On the entry specification, the upholstery is entirely cloth, while other versions mix synthetic leather and leather. In R.S. Line models, the finish switches to leather and Alcantara for an even more exclusive feeling.

Coupé styling does not compromise space

The Arkana’s low, sporty roofline is key to its distinctive profile, yet it has not harmed practicality. Renault claims the best rear legroom in the segment at 211 mm, along with 862 mm of headroom for rear-seat passengers.

A clear push towards electrification

Offered with Renault’s E-Tech Hybrid technology, the Arkana brings a segment-unique hybrid engine line-up: the 145 cv E-Tech Híbrido and the TCe 140 and 160 variants fitted with 12V mild-hybrid systems.

The hybrid version, called E-Tech, uses the same hybrid set-up as the Clio E-Tech, combining a naturally aspirated 1.6l petrol engine with two electric motors powered by a 1,2 kWh battery positioned beneath the boot floor.

The outcome is a combined 145 cv, managed by Renault’s innovative multi-mode gearbox without a clutch or synchromesh, developed using experience gained in Formula 1.

In this hybrid specification, Renault quotes combined consumption of 4,9 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 108 g/km (WLTP) for the Arkana.

Two 12V mild-hybrid versions

The Arkana is also sold as the TCe 140 and TCe 160, both paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a 12V mild-hybrid system.

Benefiting from Stop & Start and energy recuperation during deceleration, this system allows the internal combustion engine - the 1.3 TCe - to switch off while braking.

At the same time, the alternator/starter motor and battery support the engine when energy demand peaks, such as during pull-aways and acceleration.

In the TCe 140 version (available from launch), which delivers 140 cv and 260 Nm of maximum torque, the Arkana posts claimed average consumption of 5,8 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 131 g/km (WLTP).
